Pre-Purchase Surveys

Preventing You From Making a Mistake

A Pre-Purchase Survey is conducted as part of the vessel purchase process. Similar to a home inspection a marine surveyor is hired by the buyer to inspect the vessel for deficiencies. Typically this type of survey involves an in-water inspection of the boat and systems, an out-of-water inspection of the hull and running gear, and a limited trial run.

Condition & Valuation (C&V)/Appraisal

Vessel's Condition & Fair Market Value

This type of survey is similar in scope to a pre-purchase survey but is not conducted as part of a purchase process. The vessel is inspected for deficiencies and a report is prepared to assess Fair Market Value (FMV).

Insurance/Marine Underwriter's Risk Assessment

Ensuring your Vessel's Coverage

Some insurers require that a vessel be periodically surveyed to assess both the vessel's condition and fair market value prior to having insurance issued. The scope of this survey is typically dictated by the insurance company and is dependent upon the insurer and the vessel.

Oil Analysis/Fluid Samples

Early Detection

Oil samples can be taken from engines, transmissions, drives, and generators and sent to a laboratory for analysis. The report provided can detect anomalies and trends to keep your mechanical systems running the way they should.
